Our Mission Statement

Forks Church is where God lifts up our spirits through creative worship as we build God’s Kingdom.  Come and See.  Come and Grow.  Come and Serve.

Come and See that through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we:

  • Experience the real presence of Christ in our lives.
  • Make Christ’s presence known through engaging liturgies, uplifting music, and powerful and creative sermons.
  • Acknowledge the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Come and Grow in our personal relationships with Jesus Christ, we:

  • Offer an intentional ministry that integrates worship, discipleship, and discovering ways of reaching out to our neighbors.
  • Equip our members to use their spiritual gifts and become servant leaders.
  • Give generously of our time, financial resources, and abilities to build God’s Kingdom.

Come and Serve in the name of Jesus Christ, we:

  • Intentionally develop relationships with others and pray that people we serve will grow in their relationship with God.
  • Serve people in need in our community and around the world as our neighbors.
  • Convey to the people that we serve that God loves them and invite them to come and grow in their relationship with God and Jesus Christ.

STAFF

Dear Forks Church community,

I’d like to take the chance to introduce myself to you a little more as we get to know one another.  I have been here just a couple of weeks so far.

I am not new to the Leechburg area, having lived in Lower Burrell for the past 7 years.  Prior to coming to Forks, I served a small congregation in southern Indiana County.  I am (of course) the wife of Pastor Jim Arter at First Lutheran in Leechburg.  We have been married for 9 years and have a daughter, Rebecca.  The other member of our household is a gecko (small lizard) named Angel.

In my spare time, I enjoy music (listening, playing, or singing), crocheting and other crafts, cooking, baking, and walking outdoors.  In my church life, I enjoy working with folks of all ages, though I have a passion for children/youth/educational ministry.  I look forward to meeting the good people of Forks and hearing more about what this congregation means to you and where you see God working among you.

In Christ,

Pastor Elizabeth Arter

Office hours:  Monday - Thursday, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Sandy Hess has been a member of Forks Zion Lutheran Church for 36 years.  During that time, she has been a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, as well as Director of Vacation Bible School.  She served as Choir Director for approximately 18 years.  She is a current choir member and chairs the Parish Life Committee.

Sandy and her husband Sam have lived in Gilpin Township for the past 37 years.  They raised two sons, Sam and Sean, who both were active members at Forks Church for many years, before moving from the area.

Sam lives in Chambersburg, PA with his wife, Maegen and their two dogs, Franco and Roxy.

Sean, his wife, Claire and sons, Braden and Braxton recently relocated to Leechburg after living and teaching in Fayetteville, NC.

Sandy and Sam enjoy visiting with their family, as often as possible.

They look forward to the holidays, when everyone is home!

Director, Worship and Music Ministries

Glenna Stitt

724-845-6627

Glenna Stitt has been the organist and Choir Dirctor at Forks Zion for the past 14 years. Glenna celebrated 50 years of Musical Ministry in April of 2017.

She began studying piano at age 8 and organ at age 11.  She became organist of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Vandergrift when she was 13, and served that parish for 35 years. Glenna has lived in Vandergrift all of her life, and currently resides there with her husband Bill and her 6 parrots.  She has one daughter, Michele Craig (Mark) who lives in Worthington, PA.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, fish, and just hanging out with all of her "parrot friends."  Without a doubt, the greatest joy in her life has always been her involvement in church music.  It has been the perfect gift from God that she will be forever grateful for.
